A Change is Going to Come: Five Day Devotional

ree

Here are a few additional resources to guide your quiet time this week:

Day 1: More Than Emergency Contact

Based on the Message: "A Change Is Going to Come" by Elder Chris "C Note" Elliot

"On the third day a wedding took place at Cana in Galilee. Jesus' mother was there, and Jesus and his disciples had also been invited to the wedding." - John 2:1-2

Devotional: Think about your phone contacts for a moment. There's probably someone labeled 'ICE' (In Case of Emergency) that you rarely call unless something goes wrong. Then there are those favorite contacts, people you genuinely enjoy talking to, whose presence brings you joy. Which category does Jesus fall into in your life?

At the wedding in Cana, Jesus wasn't invited because the hosts knew He could perform miracles. At that point, no one even understood He was the Son of God. He was invited simply because they valued His presence and enjoyed His company. They had built a genuine relationship with Him. This challenges us to examine our own relationship with God. Do we only reach out when we're in crisis mode, treating Him like a divine 911 service? Or do we cultivate a daily friendship where we seek His presence simply because we love being with Him?

A genuine relationship with God transforms everything. When we pursue His face rather than just His hands, when we seek His presence rather than just His presents, we discover that He's already working behind the scenes in ways we can't even imagine. The family at Cana had no idea their simple invitation would result in Jesus' first recorded miracle. Today, consider shifting from a crisis-based relationship to a presence-based relationship with God. He wants to be more than your emergency contact; He wants to be your closest friend.

Quote: "Is Jesus a 911 call or is he a favorite contact saved on your phone?" - Elder Chris "C Note" Elliot

Question: When you think about your prayer life and relationship with God, are you primarily reaching out during emergencies, or are you cultivating daily friendship with Him?

Prayer: Lord, forgive me for treating You like an emergency contact instead of my dearest friend. Help me to seek Your presence daily, not just Your provision in times of need. I want to know You more deeply and enjoy Your company every day. In Jesus' mighty name, Amen.

Day 2: He Doesn't Leave When Things Go Wrong

Based on the Message: "A Change Is Going to Come" by Elder Chris "C Note" Elliot

"God is our refuge and strength, an ever-present help in trouble." - Psalm 46:1

Devotional: Picture this: you're hosting a celebration and suddenly you run out of the main refreshment. Embarrassment floods over you. Guests start to notice. Some might even leave early. But not Jesus. When the wine ran out at the wedding in Cana, Jesus didn't make excuses and head for the exit. He stayed.

This reveals something beautiful about God's character. When our lives run short - whether it's hope, resources, relationships, or direction - God doesn't abandon us. While others might distance themselves when we're struggling, Jesus moves closer. He doesn't love us only when everything is going perfectly; He loves us especially when things fall apart. What are you 'out of' today? Maybe you're out of patience with a difficult situation, out of energy to keep fighting, or out of ideas for moving forward.

The enemy wants you to believe that God has given up on you, that your shortage disqualifies you from His presence. But that's a lie. God is our refuge and strength, always ready to help in times of trouble. He doesn't wait for us to get our act together before He shows up. In fact, our emptiness often becomes the very place where He demonstrates His faithfulness most clearly. Just as Jesus stayed at the wedding when the wine ran out, He stays with you when life gets difficult. Your shortage doesn't surprise Him or scare Him away.

Quote: "It doesn't matter what you are out of. If you're out of wine, you're out of hope, you're out of friends, out of strategy, out of ideas. God is our refuge and strength, always ready to help in the time of trouble" -Elder Chris "C Note" Elliot

Question: What area of your life feels 'empty' right now, and how might God be inviting you to trust Him in that very place?

Prayer: Father, thank You that You don't leave when things get difficult. When I feel like I'm running on empty, help me remember that You are my refuge and strength. Stay close to me, especially in my moments of lack In Jesus' name, Amen.

Day 3: Your Next Step Is in Your Last Instruction

Based on the Message: "A Change Is Going to Come" by Elder Chris "C Note" Elliot

"His mother said to the servants, "Whatever He says to you, do it."" -John 2:5

Devotional: Sometimes we're waiting for God to give us a new word, a fresh vision, or a dramatic sign. Often, our breakthrough is hidden in the last thing He told us to do that we haven't fully obeyed yet. At the wedding in Cana, Jesus gave the servants a simple instruction: fill the empty water pots with water. Not wine, just water.

Imagine being those servants. You're in the middle of a crisis, no wine at a wedding celebration. Then this carpenter's son tells you to fill jars with water. It probably seemed pointless, maybe even foolish. But their obedience to this simple instruction became the pathway to witnessing the miraculous. God often works this way. He gives us seemingly ordinary instructions that don't immediately make sense. Maybe He's told you to forgive someone, to take a step of faith in your career, to have that difficult conversation, or to start serving in a particular area.

These instructions might feel disconnected from the breakthrough you're seeking, but they're actually the bridge to your next elevation. The servants didn't see the connection between filling water pots and solving the wine shortage, but their obedience created space for God's power to work. What divine instruction have you been putting off? What simple step of obedience is God waiting for you to take? Your next miracle might be one act of obedience away.

Quote: "Your next elevation is in your last instruction." - Elder Chris "C Note" Elliot

Question: What is the last instruction God gave you that you haven't fully followed through on, and what's holding you back from taking that step?

Prayer: Lord, help me to be faithful in the small instructions You give me. Give me the courage to obey even when I don't understand how it connects to my breakthrough. I trust that You know what You're doing. In Jesus' name, Amen.

Day 4: God Focuses on What You Have

Based on the Message: "A Change Is Going to Come" by Elder Chris "C Note" Elliot

"There is a lad here who has five barley loaves and two small fish, but what are they among so many?” - John 6:9

Devotional: When we're facing challenges, our natural tendency is to focus on what we lack. We think about what we've lost, what we don't have, what seems impossible. God has a completely different perspective. He doesn't focus on what you've lost, He focuses on what you have. At the wedding, when the wine ran out, Jesus didn't lament the empty wine containers. Instead, He looked at what was available: empty water pots and access to water.

What seemed like nothing became the raw material for a miracle. The very emptiness that appeared to be the problem became part of the solution. Maybe you're looking at your life right now and seeing mostly emptiness, empty bank account, empty relationships, empty dreams. However, God sees potential. He sees raw materials. He sees vessels ready to be filled with something extraordinary. The water pots at Cana weren't glamorous. They were ordinary, functional containers used for ceremonial washing.

In Jesus' hands, these common vessels became the containers for His first recorded miracle. Your ordinary life, your simple resources, your everyday circumstances, these aren't obstacles to God's power. They're the very things He wants to use. Stop despising what you have because it doesn't look like what you think you need. God is in the business of transforming the ordinary into the extraordinary, the common into the miraculous.

Quote: "God doesn't focus on what you lost. He focuses on what you have." - Elder Chris "C Note" Elliot

Question: What 'ordinary' resources or circumstances in your life might God want to use in extraordinary ways if you offered them to Him?

Prayer: God, help me to see my life through Your eyes. Instead of focusing on what I lack, help me to appreciate and offer what I have. Transform my ordinary into Your extraordinary. In Jesus' name, Amen.

Day 5: Empty Vessels, Extraordinary Purpose

Based on the Message: "A Change Is Going to Come" by Elder Chris "C Note" Elliot

"But we have this treasure in earthen vessels, that the excellence of the power may be of God and not of us"- 2 Corinthians 4:7

Devotional: There's something powerful about emptiness when it's in the right hands. The water pots at the wedding weren't just empty; they were completely empty, ready to be filled with something new. Jesus has a habit of using empty vessels, and that's incredibly good news for all of us who sometimes feel like we have nothing left to offer. Think about it: the water and wine had the same basic state; they were both liquids in the same containers. However, they had completely different tastes, different values, different purposes.

The transformation didn't require new containers; it required divine touch. The same vessel that held ordinary water now contained the finest wine. This is a picture of what God wants to do in your life. He doesn't need to replace you to use you powerfully. He doesn't need you to become someone completely different. He wants to transform what's already there: your personality, your experiences, your circumstances, into something that brings glory to Him and blessing to others.

Your emptiness isn't disqualification; it's preparation. Your struggles aren't evidence that God can't use you; they're proof that you understand your need for Him. When you feel like you have nothing to offer, remember that Jesus specializes in using empty vessels. The servants at Cana had no idea they were participating in a miracle. They just followed instructions with empty pots and ordinary water. Today, offer your emptiness to Jesus and watch what He can do.

Quote: "Jesus is in the habit of using empty vessels." - Elder Chris "C Note" Elliot

Question: How might your current season of feeling 'empty' actually be God preparing you to be filled with something greater than you've ever experienced before?

Prayer: Jesus, thank You that You specialize in using empty vessels. I offer You my emptiness, my ordinary circumstances, and my simple resources. Fill me with Your presence and use me for Your extraordinary purposes. In Jesus' name, Amen.
